Process Development Chemist

About ACE and the role

Advanced Chemical Etching (ACE) uses chemical etching to manufacture precision metal components, providing product development engineers greater flexibility in design. ACE supplies the aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical, and communications sectors with precision metal components. Our dedicated laboratory uses various analytical techniques to analyse the process chemistries as part of our Process Control Plan (PCP). These include Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF), UV/Vis spectrometry, ORP, pH, and conductivity measurements.

  • Job description (Responsibilities):

    1. Oversee all laboratory activities, including routine test/analysis of samples and equipment calibration.

    2. Monitor PCP results and react to deviations to keep chemistries within the specified control limits.

    3. Develop an understanding of all the chemical reactions involved in the process (redox and acid-base reactions) and use this understanding to maintain a stable and safe process.

    4. Use mass balance calculations to determine the dosing rates of the different chemistries in the etching machines.

    5. Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained in the laboratory.

    6. Liaise closely with other staff on problem-solving and continuous improvement projects.

    7. Conduct R&D trials to develop new processes or improve existing processes.

    8. Manage laboratory stock/inventory.

  • Essential:

    • BSc in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

    • In-depth knowledge in the following areas: Analytical Chemistry, Oxidation-reduction reactions, and Acid-base reactions

    • Fluent in performing chemistry calculations (involving moles, volume, concentrations, flow rates, etc.)

    • Ability to interpret experimental data.

    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

    • Good time management.

    • Knowledge of statistical process control.

  • Desirable:

    • 3 years of experience in a chemical laboratory environment (ideally in manufacturing).

    • Ability to carry out research into relevant areas in chemistry (e.g., redox reactions, metal hydrolysis, equilibrium constants, x-ray fluorescence).

    • Knowledge of transition metal chemistry.

    • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and material science.

    • The ability to use Microsoft Excel, including data analysis tools.

    • Experience in COSHH assessment.

  • Benefits:

    • Competitive Salary based on experience.

    • Hours:- 8.0am – 4.30pm Mon-Thu & 8.0am – 3.30pm Friday

We are always looking for talented individuals to enhance our team.
